Low-light Engagement
Before Thanksgiving I received a phone call from a number in Georgia, and initially I was hesitant to answer as I had no inkling to anyone I would know from the state, or why at best they would be ringing me in the middle of the afternoon. However, I did answer, and I'm so grateful I did.
The voice on the other end of the phone was the sweetest woman, Elizabeth, inquiring about my photography packages. She explained that she was coming to Kentucky for the Holiday and really wanted me to capture her and her fiance as they were recently engaged and had some fun ideas and felt I was the perfect person to spend some time with.
Talk about honored, amiright?
I immediately scheduled her for a Sunday afternoon session, and we began talking about locations and ideas for her beautiful vision.
The day came to meet her and her fiance, and I drove to a beautiful park in Louisville that I had never been to, which is exciting for me as I'm constantly on the lookout for new landscapes for future sessions. The park had fields, a creek, a gorgeous stone wall and old barns all within its territory and I felt like a little kid walking into a candy store during a sale. My mind began to race with ideas the moment I saw how beautiful she looked and the props she brought for the session. She had balloons, a whimsical gold skirt, signs and the cutest sidekicks you could ever want to meet; their two dogs.
When I set up my equipment, I knew that the sun was setting rapidly and we really had to run to the different locations we had discussed to ensure her ideas were executed perfectly.
As soon as I set the camera to my eye, this was one of the first shots I captured:
Whatever 'that' is, they have it.
These two were so peaceful and so happy to just have fun with one another and allow me to follow them around.
And believe me, I did.
One of the locations Elizabeth insisted on was the creek area within the park. Although it was about a ten minute walk in the cold to reach our destination, it was worth every sniffle and step.
I had a blast watching them interact, dance and laugh with one another in the freezing water without having to direct them in the slightest. I really wanted their personalities and the gorgeous water and sunset through the trees to speak for itself in these photos, and I feel like they truly did.
As the sun set and the temperature dropped, it was time to heat things up a bit, so we moved locations again and I encouraged them to soak in these moments and be as close and intimate as possible.
By this point in the evening, I felt like my mind and camera was going to explode with creative happiness, so we hugged one another, paid our compliments and "Thank You's" and parted ways The lovebirds were headed back to Georgia and I was headed back to my editing cave to begin this gorgeous session.
I'm so pleased and beyond thrilled that I've been able to reach individuals from outside of the state, and I'm hoping in the upcoming New Year, I can do this even more.
